Following the recent release of the official trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, we would like to introduce the four locations in Somiedo and its surroundings that appear as key settings in the film. All of them are located very close to Villa Caunedo and form part of the stunning natural heritage that has captivated Hollywood.
Asturias—and Somiedo Natural Park in particular—has once again been placed on the world map thanks to its wild landscapes, deep silence and authenticity. It is no coincidence that the film crew— including members of the Hollywood production team who stayed at Villa Caunedo during the summer—found the perfect setting here for this new instalment of the saga.
Below, we present the four main filming locations that you can visit from the villa.

1. The Montegrande Beech Forest: a woodland straight out of a novel
Just a few minutes from Villa Caunedo lies the Montegrande Beech Forest, one of the most striking locations featured in the filming. It is an easy, enjoyable route that winds through centuries-old beech trees, birches, hollies and giant yews, in an atmosphere where the light changes with every step and the silence feels almost magical.
The trail ends at El Xiblu, a set of three wild waterfalls cascading between moss-covered rock walls. A perfect setting to recreate moments of tension, adventure and raw nature in the film — and an equally fascinating place for any visitor to explore.

2. The Path to Valle del Lago: a route through one of Somiedo’s most iconic landscapes
The Path to Valle del Lago was also chosen as a cinematic setting. It runs through a vast glacial valley, surrounded by sharp mountain peaks, traditional shepherd huts, crystal-clear rivers and meadows that seem endless. Its epic scenery fits perfectly with the aesthetic of Sunrise on the Reaping.
The route is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and ends at Lago del Valle, one of the most impressive lakes in Asturias.

3. The Saliencia Lakes: nature in its purest form
The Saliencia Lakes — Lake La Cueva, Lake Cerveriz and Lake Negro-Caballarosa — form one of the most spectacular lake systems in northern Spain and were a key filming location in the movie. Their glacial waters, the intense green tones of the surrounding mountains and the high-altitude atmosphere create an unforgettable visual setting.
From the Alto de la Farrapona, the popular Lakes Route begins, an essential hike for experiencing this cinematic landscape first-hand.

4. Monte Carcedo Pine Forest: a centuries-old woodland that has captivated Hollywood
Filming also took place in the Monte Carcedo Pine Forest, located within the Babia y Luna Natural Park, very close to the border with Somiedo. Its towering pine trees, soft light and intimate forest atmosphere make it a perfect setting for scenes filled with mystery and emotion.
Although it lies in the province of León, its proximity makes it an ideal day trip from Villa Caunedo.
